Anyone could be born in Marseille on December 19, 1911. At least that happened to several A grandmother furnished some fine Italian blood. After the normal formalities - registration at the town hall, congratulations, sweets - the young Max flew off to llaute-Savoie. No planes in those days; he flew of by train. From his nursery in the great mountains dominating Annemasse he watched the cows at pasture, the eternal firs, saw the croci push up through the snow in winter, and, in summer, the gentians. Children cried in that nursery on the heights, he among them. Snows fell, sunshine rejoiced the heart, and gales came and passed. It was sweet, it was hard, it was brief, and it was eternity. Max’s fingers felt beasts, flowers, pebbles, and his eyes opened. It was 1914. |

“The executing of a painting” says Papart, “is the materialization of a previous vision. This imposes on the painter a series of requirements to which he submits to bring the plastic elements to writing, form, and desired color. Only himself known by his inventiveness, and succeed by his execution and quality. However, the power of abstract imagination, love of color, agility in its relationships, the attraction of interest, cannot be learnt. It is. And one can only develop it by cultivating ones regard. Happy to say, we have many paintings and graphics’ in our private collection of art by this very nice and famous painter, introduced to us by Paul Hervieu in Nice. We, Mirja and me, hade the pleasure to meet him many times during the years. It was most of the times in the Gallerie Hervieu but also in many art- fairs. Paul Hervieu was a extremely nice art-dealer and person. We meet him in the middle of 1950 and over all the years he was always taking good care of Mirja and me. I don’t know many times we have been in Nice, in south of Francs and, for sure, every time we was there we spend many hours in his Gallerie. We had also the pleasure
to see him and his wife in our home many times. Sorry to say, he is not any longer with us here in this world. I like to say that close to everything we have learned about art = we have learn it from Paul Hervieu in Nice. Every time we was visiting him in the Gallerie, and also in his beautiful house he introduced us to many of his Artist-friends. His house was like a museum. We could easily spend hour’s there just looking around. He was a genuine friend and we miss him very much. |

Paul Hervieu att tacka för att vi fátt denna fina och lyckosamma kontakt med. Varje gáng vi har sett varandra hos Paul har varit som en julafton. Vi har träffats i Basel – Paris – Nice och pá mánga andra konstmässor. En helt fantastisk konstnär som vi har en privat stor samling av. |
